Comoros Maritime Administration Issued Circular Regarding Resting Hours and IMO Guidelines on Fatigue

The minimum number of hours of rest shall not be less than:

  1. Ten (10) hours in any twenty-four (24) hour period; and
  2. Seventy-seven (77) hours in any seven (7) day period

The hours of rest can be divided into no more than two periods, one of which shall be at least six (6) hours in length, and the interval between consecutive periods of rest shall not exceed fourteen (14) hours.

The Maritime Administration of the Union of Comoros may permit exceptions to the minimum hours of rest required by the regulations that have been produced as part of a collective agreement or applied for by the ship-owner with evidence that the exception being applied for has been agreed by the seafarers and/or the seafarers' representatives.
