Comoros Martime Administration issued Circular regarding Ship Security Level III within the Eastern Mediterranean Sea Area

Further to the current situation in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea Area, the Administration of the Union of Comoros is calling for a setting of Ship Security Level III to all Comorian Vessels operating within the above mentioned zone.

The Administration gives the Comorian vessels and the crew the following recommendations:

  1. Vessels which are currently at the afore mentioned areas, are advised keep the utmost vigilance and increase security conditions aboard in order to protect the vessel and its crew.
  2. Operators and Masters should complete a Risk Assessment prior entering any of the afore mentioned zones.
  3. Masters on board Vessels are strongly encouraged to check that all fire-fighting equipment is available for immediate use.
  4. Vessels must ensure the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and the Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) are always transmitting, in accordance with provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
  5. Vessels are advised to make frequent checks with local sources of information, e.g. vessel agents, local authorities, and/or P&I correspondent in order to obtain the most up-to-date and reliable security information.
  6. In case of any incident or suspicious activity, Vessels have to inform this Administration immediately and activate the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS).
